The Poetry of Reverie

Reverie began as letters, then turned into a poem, and finally a book…or three.

This article in the Wacoan describes how Reverie began. I read the poem at the 2017 House of Poetry, a Baylor event each spring, and thought, ‘Gee, if they like it, maybe I can just keep repeating myself in some kind of way but add something to it.’”

Thank you to The Baylor Line for this in-depth review of Reverie in 2020.

A Ph.D.’s Reverie is a fantastic look into the heart and soul behind one of Baylor University’s greatest minds. While his intellect is easy to spot, the greatest aspect of Frank Guittard’s writing certainly comes in his emotional style. It comes between the lines, not in long, prosaic exposition, but rather in the poetic intimacy of everyday life. The daily ponderings, victories, and struggles throughout the book culminate in a genuine, holistic understanding of Frank Guittard’s personal life and feelings. The book is a truly worthwhile read for both scholars trying to understand the mind of the famed academic and simply those with close ties to Baylor University and Guittard’s legacy.
