I was inspired to write my next memoir on my maternal grandfather. Originally titled, DIGGING DOWN, DIGGING BACK: A Memoir of Granddad, Country Doctor. John Lester Kee (1891-1986), I am now calling it JOHN LESTER: Fiery Healer.
John Lester Kee (1891-1986) was a fiesty guy from a large blue-collar family in A small agricultural community who was determined to rise above his family’s circumstances by going to college and then medical school. Although he had a soft heart for his family and his patients, he held strongly to his opinions in general, including his medical ones. He could bristle when challenged and sometimes used his fists for emphasis. My sources are my own recollections from my student days at Baylor, along with audio tapes of family members’ recollections, correspondence, and official records.
